I just love going to yard sales because it is like a treasure hunt. You never know what you are going to find. This weekend I got a late start but found one little yard sale where the lady gave me her quilt kit for free. She had started on it probably back in the early 90's and never finished it. It has all the pieces cut out but not sewed. I had told her of my interest in trying quilting and she offered it to me for free. There are generous people out there.
Logan and I enjoyed riding through the countryside on a sunny breezy day through the back roads. I really like a section of Route 99 between Sykesville and Mt. Airy, which I think is mostly Woodbine, Maryland. I stopped by a farm stand and looked at the plants and canned goods.
Today my good friends came to church with me and afterwards had lunch at California Tortilla. Needless to say, I didn't enjoy the Blackened Chicken Caesar Tacos. And we went to see Prince Caspian which was much better than the first.

Rummaging in the rain
During my rummage/yard sale hunting in the rain yesterday I found an old knitting book by James Norbury called The Family Knitting Book. You can read a short biography of him on this article found on the Knitty website. Though the binding has fallen apart it still has all the pages and some wonderful patterns for men, women, and children.
Here is another picture of the knitted elephant I finally downloaded. I'm going to make another one for my 5 year old niece in her requested color of red. I ripped out my sock that was started last weekend because I found a hole near the cast on edge that just bothered me and have started over. This week I attended two meetings of the Mt. Airy ravelry knitting group and found that I recognized many of the women from a knitting class I took a few years ago.

Here is a picture of two tea cups I bought for my mom and grandmother at The Pink Cabbage in Ellicott City, Maryland for Mother's Day. I'm not sure the pattern but I know they are made in England. The roses were from my sister. Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there.

A lot going on
The month of April flew by and now it's already May. In April, I started scouring rummage and yard sales again, yeah! Over the third weekend of April, I attended the baby shower for my sister-in-law due May 20th. I drove to Wilmington for a few days and enjoyed the company of my brother and his wife as well as the views of the ocean off Wrightsville Beach. I finally finished the knit elephant toy for my unborn niece my last day there. I had to sew over the edges on the ears so they wouldn't be so floppy. The french knots for the eyes were a bit tricky as I had to switch to yarn instead of embroidery floss.
Over this past weekend I finally met my Internet fiber friend Rebecca . She stayed with my family while attending the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival. We were tired after walking around for 5 hours looking at various yarns and rovings. It was fun to have someone to talk with that loves knitting even more than I do. She got me started knitting socks with the yarn she blessed me with for my birthday last year. I hope to visit her and her husband this fall as I travel through North Carolina.
